It’s been a busy year, and what better way to wrap it up then with a busy final Sitting Week, where our government has passed crucial legislation that tackles a variety of issues affecting Australians.

We know that for too long, little to no action has been taken to address our problematic housing market and so our Help To Buy legislation successfully passed, which will help homebuyers purchase a home with a deposit as low as 2% and our Build To Rent legislation also passed, which will help deliver 80,000 new homes for renters.

Both policies are significant steps in addressing mortgage & rental stress, as well as address the lack of homes available on both markets. After years of inaction by previous governments, I am proud to be part of a Federal Government that is taking these important steps in addressing this major issue.

We are also addressing other areas of concern, which includes our aged care reforms, which are the biggest reforms to improve our aged care system in a generation, to give Australians the dignity and respect they deserve in their later years.

If you are a student, you’ll benefit from our government wiping student debt for more than 3 million people, saving students $1200 on average.

Another area of concern has been the cost of groceries, with our government backing everyday Australians at the checkout by cracking down on supermarkets doing the wrong thing. We are holding supermarkets to account to get fairer prices at the checkout.

We are also cracking down on social media companies whose platforms are causing harm to our children and from conversations I have had with local parents and our schools, this is a real problem that we are taking real action on.

Further, I know all too well from speaking with our local business-owners, manufacturers and workers the importance of buying & supporting Australian and so that is why I am very happy that our Future Made in Australia legislation has passed. This will create tens of thousands of new jobs in various industries in our suburbs and regions.

Moreover, we have provided childcare workers with a well-deserved pay rise, whilst at the same time, keeping fees down for families.

This is crucial if we are to retain and attract workers to this important industry, thereby helping children access education in their early years and helping ensure their parents can participate in the workforce or in volunteering roles.

There is much to do and I look forward to getting back to Macarthur where I have a range of local meetings, events and announcements to conclude the year with.

The work is not yet over and my office and I are still actively working right up until the Christmas break.
