The Albanese Labor Government is providing financial support for a record high 869 Australia Day events in 2026, with organisations from Macarthur being successful in their applications to host a total of four local events.
Both Campbelltown City Council & Campbelltown Meals on Wheels have been successful with their applications, which has been warmly welcomed by Dr Mike Freelander MP, the Federal Member for Macarthur.
For Campbelltown Meals and Wheels, their project provides social engagement through their community BBQ, helping residents come together on our national day.
Campbelltown City Council will receive Federal funding for three events, with a free community festival complete with rides, food vendors, stallholders, kids’ entertainment, live music and fireworks being the most sizeable of the lot.
For Dr Feelander, Australia Day is a time for all citizens to reflect on the many things that make us proud to be Australian, particularly our healthcare system and our diverse flora and fauna.
Australia Day is a day that we should also deliberate on our past, accept the truth of our history and respect all who have contributed to the story of Australia, particularly Indigenous Australians.
Quotes attributable to Dr Mike Freelander MP:
“Australia Day is a day that we should also deliberate on our past, accept the truth of our history and respect all who have contributed to the story of Australia, particularly Indigenous Australians.
“I am pleased that our Federal Government is helping ensure Macarthur residents can engage in community events on Australia Day in 2026.”
