The Federal Member for Macarthur, Dr Mike Freelander MP has today issued calls for the Coalition to commit to delivering desperately needed rail infrastructure in Western Sydney.

Dr Freelander has called on his colleagues in the Federal and State Coalition Governments to ensure that the new Western Sydney Airport is serviced by a rail link to South-West Sydney.

“Without adequate access to the airport through public transport infrastructure, Macarthur residents will likely miss out on the opportunities this development will provide in terms of jobs and economic growth,” said Dr Mike Freelander MP.

“Given the rapid growth and development we are seeing in South-West Sydney, it is irresponsible for Federal and State Liberal National Governments to continue to deny our region adequate investment in vital infrastructure projects.”

“A rail link via Leppington and Macarthur is necessary to service the massive population growth projected for Western Sydney over the coming years. It will also facilitate movement onto the CBD, while ensuring commuters are not made to travel via Parramatta.”

“It is a folly to prolong investment in essential infrastructure projects such as this, given the present economic climate and need,” said the Member for Macarthur.

Labor has consistently argued for the new airport to be serviced adequately by public transport infrastructure.

Dr Freelander stated that it is necessary for a rail line to be constructed, for use by commuters and freight, in order for the new airport and aerotropolis to be a success.
