Member for Macarthur, Dr. Mike Freelander MP, will be hosting his inaugural Welcoming the Babies Ceremony tomorrow in Oran Park. The ceremony officially welcomes children, aged 0-2 years, into the community.
Throughout the event, parents and guardians will be able to engage with a number of services and organisations, which will be holding stalls to provide information to attendees.
“There is nothing more rewarding than nurturing a child. However, becoming a parent can be a challenging experience - this event is an excellent opportunity to expose young families to a range of local services and information that may be of use as their families grow”, said Dr. Mike Freelander MP.
During the event, 40 babies will be officially welcomed into the Macarthur region, with parents registering their attendance through Dr. Freelander’s office over the past couple of months. Around 100 guests are expected to attend altogether, with the event reaching capacity quickly.
“I am aiming to hold this Welcoming the Babies event annually. With our region continuing to grow, and many young families now calling Macarthur home, there certainly is the demand,” said the Member for Macarthur.
“I hope that our young families will find the event informative, and that the parents enjoy the opportunity to meet with other young mums and dads.”
As a longstanding paediatrician, Dr. Freelander confesses that he’s most looking forward to meeting the babies themselves – even though they won’t be able to vote for some years.
“The ceremony publicly recognises the significant role parents and guardians play in raising the newest members of our community, but the true stars of the show will be the children themselves. Each baby will be presented with a gift bag, certificate, and a pot plant kindly donated by Mount Annan Flower Power.”
The event will be taking place with the support of a number of local organisations, with donors including Baby Bounce, Bauer Media, Karitane, Oran Park Town, Mount Annan Flower Power, among others.
