As an Australian of Jewish faith, I am shocked by the recent increases in antisemitism.
I know that our country is better than this. I see this each day that I am fortunate to represent the people of Macarthur, which is one of the most multicultural electorates in the country.
I am welcomed into schools, institutions and households of people of various faiths and cultural backgrounds.
Likewise, my office is open for all who seek assistance or wish to raise their concerns with me, no matter their background or beliefs.
To me, Macarthur is the best example of what Australia is and must continue to be.
As such, it is important that conflicts from around the world are not played out in our communities here.
Regardless of whether you’re a first generation Australian or one whose family has been here for many generations, there is no room for hatred or distrust based on religious or cultural background.
Whilst my family is of Jewish heritage, we are Australian & like most Australians, we have worked hard to contribute to making this the safe, prosperous nation we all know and love over many generations.
As such, I stand with all Australians in calling out this divisive and hateful campaign towards our Jewish community.
It must be rooted out and those responsible for enabling this in any way must be caught and punished.
All Australians of goodwill do not want nor expect this kind of behavior and divisiveness in our communities.
I urge us all to be more like Macarthur; inclusive, understanding and harmonious towards one another.
